Picture taken from KCCI’s website of our lovely ice storm over the weekend. Not, by far, a particularly bad storm, but that’s what makes winter so crappy - this was NOT BAD as far as winter storms go, and there was ice falling from the sky and travel was not advised.

First, let’s talk about what I like about winter. Snow is very pretty. I particularly like those mornings when we’ve had a fairly heavy snowfall, heavy enough that the plows are running slow, and there’s hardly any traffic, and our street is soooo pretty with the trees and the snow.

But. I hate being cold. I hate paying such high heating bills and still being cold in my house. I hate having to walk as fast as humanly possible from the car to the store to avoid losing any body parts to frostbite. I hate cold cars. I hate winter coats, they’re so bulky and they make things so hard. I hate mittens. I hate being cold and wet from playing outside. I hate that I don’t ever want to play outside. I hate that we can’t enjoy long walks any more. That we have to wear socks all the time. That it takes so long to get dressed to go anywhere - long underwear, clothes, boots, mittens, hats, scarves, etc.

But having winter makes spring the wonderful season it is. I wouldn’t enjoy putting the screens on the windows half as much if we didn’t have winter, right?
