Autumn Trees

This craft project was REALLY easy, and gives us actually nice-looking decorations for our dinner table

10/9

Want to make your own? It’s super easy.

Fold 2 pipe cleaners in half and twist to make the trunk. Fold the upper portion out into branches. Cut a third pipe cleaner into smaller pieces and wrap those around the branches to make smaller branches. Grab a wad of play dough (homemade or commercial) and plant the trunk of your tree into it as a base. Cut scrap construction paper into small pieces and glue onto the branches for leaves.  VOILA.

Halloween Candy

9/30

This was fun. I had to run to JoAnn’s to buy something quick, and they had their Halloween candy kits on sale, so we bought one. Wally needed help with the details, but he was able to do large parts of this all by himself. We just basically had to melt the candy and put it in the mold, but if we wanted to color certain things different colors, we had to paint it in there. It was harder than you’d think, lol.

But it’s quite yummy, and we’ve been sharing them with friends and family, because we so clearly do not need this much candy!

Little Lamb Project

Lamb - 3/18

We made this little lamb for a homeschool craft project this week. Take a toilet paper tube, stuff it with waste paper. Wrap two black pipe cleaners (sorry, chenille stems). Cover with glue. Cover with cotton balls. Glue on eyes. Glue on mouth. Chuckle at how pathetic it looks.

Handprint Turkeys

Handprint Turkeys

Wally and I made handprint turkeys this year, but I really think that’s a craft for next year. At 3, he really didn’t seem to make any sort of connection between the handprint, a turkey, an upcoming holiday, and why on earth we were making turkeys in the first place. He kept calling it a chicken, too. And then he started getting mad at me when I’d draw on the beak, eye, and feet. That’s when I knew we were done.

Homemade Playdough

Homemade Playdough, originally uploaded by sarahtar.

Wally and I made some playdough last week. He’s been loving it, and it was super easy to make. Flour, water, oil, cream of tartar, salt. That’s about it, I think…
