WIP: Felted Purses

Goodness, I started these felted purses in March!!

Purses, before felting Purses, before felting

These pictures are from before I felted the bags. The red one in particular seems just huge.

Felted Purses - after Felted Purses - after

This is the bags after felting. The red one is so deliciously furry, I’m considering just trimming it down a bit and leaving it furry!

I’m still not done. Besides trimming off the fuzzies, I need to get and apply handles to the red bag, and a closure for the pink and purple one.

I didn’t follow any particular pattern for these bags, I just basically started knitting and this is what I ended up with. I used Brown Sheep Company chunky wool yarn.

A few new baby items for me

I love July. Wallypop is closed and, while I always plan to take a break from sewing, I usually end up just sewing for me instead. Here are a few of the new baby items I’ve been making.

Wet Wipe Bag
A wet wipe bag.
I never used a wet wipe bag with Wally. I kept my wipes dry, both at home and in the diaper bag, and wet them before use. I thought I’d try carrying a few wet wipes in the diaper bag this time around, to see how I like it. This bag is about 9 inches square, since my wipes are 8 inches square. It’s got a decorative cotton outer and waterproof PUL inner, and closes with a zipper.

Diapers Diapers
One-Size Pocket Fitteds.
I actually made these several months ago at our Des Moines Cloth Diapering diaper sewing class. This was the pattern that Jessica chose to have us all make, and it was fun to put together. I made one diaper with the opening in the back, as per the pattern. The one on the right, I added back waist elastic and moved the pocket opening to the front. These diapers are made one-size through folding the top and bottom in and pulling the tabs closer together. They are fastened by a pin, or simply held in place with a wrap-style cover.

Wool Diaper Covers, Fleece Diaper Covers

Here are the wool and fleece diaper covers I made for the upcoming new baby. Similar items are available for sale over at Wallypop.

wool diaper covers wool diaper covers

Wool. On the left is a wrap made from an old sweater. On the right are six wraps made from new wool. Four jersey (on the bottom) and two crepe (on top). Wool is so great. Naturally antibacterial, nearly bulletproof, breatheable, all natural. Love, love, love.

Batman fleece cover Fleece cover, bound in elastic 5 fleece covers, regular

Fleece. One with a batman applique (largely for Wally). One bound with FOE. And four just regular fleece wraps.

Messenger Bag for a Child

I’m working on another Super Easy Patternless Tutorial for this bag, but in the meantime, this is a fun bag I made for Wally. It turned out a little big, proportion-wise, but I wanted it to be big enough to carry home library books.

WIP: Knit Pants for a Four-Year-Old

Wally's knit pants, still in progress.

As mentioned earlier, Wally got so excited about the baby longies I made, thinking they were for him, that I decided to make him a pair, too. I have one leg left to go!

New Pouch for Fall

No, it’s nowhere close to fall, but I’m slowly checking items off the “must sew before baby arrives” list.

Flames and Dragons

This is a fun pouch I made from some super fun fabric I found at J0Ann’s a while back. While I was at it, I also restocked my store, and as soon as I open again in August, you can buy yourself your very own Flames and Dragons pouch - or choose from one of several fun designs.

Completed Project: Baby Longies

Baby Longies, finished

I finished these longies on the way to Chicago, and Wally immediately thought they were his. “Did you make me a pair of pants, mommy?” He was so excited. So, I’m making a pair in his size, as well.

I am really pleased with how these turned out. I like knitting pants in the round a lot more than knitting two flat pieces and seaming them. More information on the pattern and yarn is here.

So much crafting, so few pictures

A few weeks ago, the lens on our camera broke while we were in Chicago. I don’t mean it had a malfunction. It’s in three pieces, and another small part fell off today. The camera shop assures me it’s repairable, but I have my doubts. We’ve decided to just buy a new one (we’ve already repaired that one once, and it’s a matter of economics at this point).

Problem = we’re having a hard time finding what we want/need locally.

So in the meantime, I have my zoom lens. I literally have to stand in the next room to take pictures. So, while I’ve been making a LOT of goodies, I’ve been unable to photograph them.

- A new maternity skirt for me, finished today.
- A wet wipe bag for me, finished yesterday.
- A restocking of mama pads, mama pad bags, and breast bads.
- A ring sling for a friend.
- Some knitted pants.
- Knitted pants in progress.

Sigh. Just imagine them.
